So I had problems with my '05 Ford escape not sensing it was in park and therefore wouldn't release the key from the ignition but recently as I was driving without any noise whatsoever it acted as though I bumped it into neutral. No matter what gear you put it in (reverse, drive, etc) it sits there like it's in neutral. Now I checked my transmission fluid and it was clear and red and checked to make sure a seal or something wasn't broken. Had it towed and the mechanic "thinks" it might be the torque converter..... Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be wrong?

The external shift linkage could be out of adjustment. Have the transmission inspected to be sure or to adjust the linkage.

The other causes for this condition must be looked at by a certified transmission technician as they require some special tools and knowledge (for checking line pressure, front pump, torque converter, main controls, Etc.)
