I have a 05 Ford Escape that had a popping noise coming from the air breather. I have had #2 Ing. Coil replaced twice by the dealer, but still have the same problem. The motor runs good, but get a check engine light on for a #2 cyld. Misfire. At idle, it sounds like the engine is burping. The vehicle has 50k miles. No other problems. The dealer hasnt come up with any anwsers. The engine runs a little ruff, but not bad. HELP!

I have been having thr exacy same problem this whole past year. Engine light comes on, car starts burping ans hesitates really bad in 3rd gear and from the start, and have had the car in various times, including the Ford dealer, with the problem of the #2 cylinder having a misfire. Obviously this doesnt happen a ton because I can't anyone else really having this problem. I think our vehicles were in a small batch; from the same plant, that had this issue. I am gettting tired of dumping 6 to $700 every few month just for the problem to arise again. I have 98k on it now but has been acting up formn the past 20K of so. I know this post is 4 years old but hopefully what I have included may help find someone that has been given a solution. Thanks! Carl

Have them check compression in that cylinder for a possible intake burnt valve.

Hello I've been reading about the problems I've been having I have the same problem what I did it's checked the computer and it told me number 4 cylinder misfire after I put it on a computer in diagnostic number 2 cylinder and number 4 cylinder is not getting a pulse from the computer after I found out the number 4 coil was bad. Sorry place number for Coral thinking that'll make it run better and it ran the same it has a popping sound back through the intake out through the air filter and it's a misfire from number 4 coil going bad which caused the computer to burn out something inside of it and that's why now it will not send a pulse 2 cylinder 4 or 2 I replaced all six coils and 6 spark plugs and put the computer new computer back in it now it runs like a charm starts right up runs good this is a very common problem for the tribute the Escape and a Mercury product all three vehicles have the same problem coil goes bad it shorts out the computer I hope this helps save me a lot of time y'all have a good one thank you
