Dented bumper on 2005 ford five SE going about 5 miles per hour while backing up. Trim broke but dent popped out by itself, it looks fine. Body shop says I should replace the whole damn thing for 850.00. I feel as though they are taking me for a ride. What do you think?

Viki,

Most unfortunately, "Bumpers" are not really BUMPERS anymore

They were originally put on vehicles to avoid damage to the body, of "Yours" and "Theirs"----Bumpers were Expendable and Inexpensive to replace!

Here's some options:

Live with it!

See if you can find the trim at a salvage yard, then put it on yourself.

Go with the Body Shop Option--but get other estimates.

Let me know your avenue

Thank you so much. The thing that I get, you know with this whole being a girl thing, is the guys were earnestly trying to tell me this was a must for safety. Like I said it looks fine, the foam underneath isn't damaged and it's hard to believe I'm going to spontaneously combust anytime soon. So is getting it fixed purely cosmetic (in which case it's fine) or is there a chance bumper will fall off before I get in a fiery wreck and will in fact have saved us all if I only listened to repairman and paid 850.00 to fix?

Viki,

If your bumper is in the condition you described. My Opinion is, its not going to fall off and cause an accident behind you!

I would, however, make sure that all of your lights and signals still work correctly. And a bulb was not "Blown Out" with even a small impact.

You might also Click on my name and look at a REAL BUMPER. Also "WILLY" Bids you a Merry Christmas (look above bumper)---You would absolutely be happier in a Jeep! I can give you many reasons why.I got 2.A '77 CJ 5 and a '46 Willys
