How do I remove the hold button on a 2005 chevy aveo. The hold button light comes on when it is cold. The guy I bought it from, cleaned the car the day before. I'm thinking there might be moisture in the button. He said it worked fine before that.

The Aveo Has an Hold button that when activated acts like traction control but keeps your automatic transmission in 3rd gear. The button is next to the gear shift that activates this option. How do I get this button out so that I can clean the switch?

Hello,

You will need to remove the shift selector to clean the switch out. Here are diagrams to help you see how to do it below.

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Cheers

Can you completely disconnect the hold button on a 2005 Chevy Aveo and still drive it as if it didn't have the hold button in the first place? And in my personal opinion, why put a trailer pulling feature such as a hold button on a 4 cylinder vehicle that in the owner manual says not able to tow, makes no sense.

Thanks for the question. Is there a reason that you would like the hold button disconnected?

I understand the thought that this button is used for towing, but this is a common misunderstanding. I agree that this should not be used for towing as it is a small 4-cylinder vehicle, but the hold button is meant for when you are descending a mountain that will hold it in a certain gear so that you don't have to ride the brakes which overheats them and causes them to fail.

I am attaching the wiring diagram below that will show the lamp and switch circuit. If you want it disconnected, I would just unplug the button from the shifter. This may cause the check engine light to come on, but I am not sure it will.

Take a look at this info and let us know what questions you have.

Thanks
