I have a replacement tensioner for my C230 Kompressor but cannot locate the bolts to remove it.

The pulley is bad and while it's apart, I hate to just do a pulley swap.

My tensioner matches the original. The recessed socket on the lower left is for leveraging the tension off the belts for belt removal by inserting a pin in the hole on the lower right, once fully retracted.

I can't find anything that holds this unit on. Video's online show a different (not 2004) type of tensioner with holes cast in either side where it's bolted on, but not the case for the 2004.

Any help on how to remove this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

IS THIS THE ASSEMBLY YOU ARE REFERRING TO?

SEE PIC BELOW

I HAVE A WHOLE BUNCH OF ENGINE CHOICES, AND DIFFERENT TENSIONERS, YOUR VIN # MIGHT BE HELPFUL IN SORTING THRU THINGS, IF I NEED TO SEARCH FURTHER IN "PRODEMAND"

I appreciate the reply, but you didn't read my question or look at the photos.

I specifically stated that I don't have mounting holes on my tensioner and that is why I needed help.

I included the photos of all sides so that you could see what I was referencing.

Neither the part nor the diagram is for a 2004 C230.

I'm not satisfied and requesting a refund.

IF YOU SCROLL BACK UP

THERE JUST AIN'T NO PICS IN YOUR QUESTION

IN TRYING TO MAKE SURE WE WERE DISCUSSING THE SAME ANIMAL, I GRABBED A PIC FROM PRODEMAND DISPLAYING "A TENSIONER" FOR ONE OF THE SEVERAL ENGINES THAT COME IN THAT VEHICLE

IN MY REPLY I ADDED THIS

"YOUR VIN # MIGHT BE HELPFUL IN SORTING THRU THINGS"

AS I HAD NO PICS TO LOOK AT - AND DID NOT FEEL LIKE SPENDING FOREVER LOOKING THRU PRODEMAND, WHEN A SIMPLE REPLY MIGHT NARROW DOWN MY SEARCH.

SOMETIMES IT TAKES A FEW REPLIES TO GET THINGS ROLLING, WE EVEN MESSAGE EACH OTHER LOOKING FOR SOLUTIONS

I ASSURE YOU THAT I WAS NOT "SLUFFING YOU OFF" WITH A QUICK ANSWER.

ALTHOUGH MY FAVORITE VEHICLES TO DEAL WITH ARE "REAL JEEPS" (NOT THE STATION WAGONS W/ FOUR WHEEL DRIVE) I SPEND LOTS OF TIME REPLYING/ MAKING DIAGRAMS AND RESEARCHING NOT ONLY THE REPAIR MANUALS, BUT AUTO PARTS SITES, OTHER FORUMS IN ORDER TO ATTEMPT TO GIVE COMPETENT ANSWERS.

SLUFF?

THIS IS JUST ONE OF MANY THAT I TRY TO HELP. PLEASE LOOK AT THE "STARTING DATE" AND "ENDING DATE" AND PAGES AND REPLIES.

https://www.2carpros.com/questions/1982-jeep-cj7-ignition-problem-spark-distributor-cap

IF I'M NOT MISTAKEN, HE ASKED A FREE QUESTION. THEN HE GOT STUCK WITH ME! (WE PICK AND CHOOSE WHAT TO ANSWER, HE WAS NOT "STUCK" WITH ME)

I'M ONLY SITTING HERE, AFTER WORK, AFTER "HONEY DOs", AFTER CATCHING UP ON MY OWN TASKS. SORRY IF I CAN'T RESPOND IMMEDIATELY. THIS IS MY HOBBY AND I DO ENJOY IT!

TO ME, IT HAS NO BEARING, WHICH "KIND OF QUESTION" IT WAS. I GENERALLY ANSWER ONES I FEEL SURE AND COMFORTABLE WITH FIRST, LEAVE THE REALLY COMPLICATED AND UNFAMILIAR ONES FOR THE OTHER GUYS, AND IF A QUESTION SEEMS TO BE "GETTING OLD" ON THE LIST, I'LL RESEARCH IT SOMEWHAT, SEE IF I CAN OFFER "ANYTHING" (A LINK/ DIAGRAM/ PIC) THAT MIGHT HELP THE FELLER HAVING A PROBLEM-*--*-EVEN IF IT'S NOT 100% WHAT HE ASKED FOR. IT "MIGHT" STRIKE A SPARK TO KEEP 'EM GOING!

SO

I ASKED FOR MORE INFO, IN ORDER TO TRY TO AID YOU. (LAST I REMEMBER)

I'M NO PHOTOGRAPHER, PICS HAVE TO BE SMALLER TO POST ON HERE (THIS COMPUTER STUFF IS A TRIP!) MOST OF MY PICS ARE 800x WHATEVER. THOSE THAT ARE 2000x AND UP USUALLY WON'T FLY. THEY USUALLY SHOW UP AS A RECTANGLE WITH "THUMB" WRITTEN ON IT.

I RECKON I SEEM TO BE SITTING IN THE SAME PLACE, WAITING ON RESPONSES, SO THAT I MIGHT HELP IN SOME WAY.

Hey man,

A couple of things here. The 2004 only came in 1 flavor of 1.8 supercharged and only has 1 version of the tensioner. Maybe someday Mercedes will quit tweaking their tensioner designs which is why there is a proliferation of different diagrams, none so far are of the 2004 flavor, thus my issue.

If the pictures aren't visible after I submitted my question, I don't know as the site feedback is "Your question is submitted". A suggestion would be a note to the side of the 'browse' button to keep resolution or file size low (whatever the site limitation is. A red X is an indication that the control cannot be read, aka image. Could be due to a failure to successfully store the uploaded image or a failure to render it. Not sure.

I described the issue accurately and obviously don't think you are sluffying me off. You just didn't get this one.

I had to move forward with the pulley swap without replacing the tensioner so I could get the car on the road, nothing more.

I'm confident you are a very competent person, but none of us are experts at everything and I thought I'd give this board a shot.

I have a number of buddies with "real jeeps" and will keep you in mind when they need help.

My apologies if you feel my comment was derogatory.

Have a good holiday.

Thanks.

ALRIGHTY THEN

PRODEMAND/ MITCHELL 1 IS A "PAY FOR" ONLINE REPAIR MANUAL. I HAVE ACCESS TO THIS SITE THRU 2CARPROS. I THINK I HAVE UNLIMITED ACCESS TO MIGHT NEAR ALL VEHICLES BACK TO 1974.

OUR SITE DOES "SELL" THESE PUPPIES FOR INDIVIDUAL VEHICLES (BLUE BAR AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE/ REPAIR AND SERVICE/ MANUALS. I WENT AHEAD AND WENT THRU THE MOTIONS AND GOT THIS LINK FOR YOUR RIG (IF IT WORKS)

www. Eautorepair. Net/app/CustomerInfo. Asp?S0=16&S1=0&YR=2004&MK=159&MD=1775&SM=0&MKN=Mercedes-Benz&MDN=C230&PS=16

BEINGS THAT PRODEMAND IS A PAY SITE, I RECKON THEY SORTA WON'T LET US COPY AND PASTE MOST OF THE INFO (SOME DIAGRAMS WE CAN) AS THEY SORTA DEEM THE INFO AS "THEIR PRODUCT"

HOWEVER, WE DO HAVE PERMISSION TO MAKE SCREEN SHOTS. SEEMS THAT THE INFO AVAILABLE TO "SHOOT" IS KINDA IN A SHORT WINDOW, AND MULTIPLE SHOTS ARE NEEDED JUST TO GET WHAT I MIGHT CALL "1 PAGE". WIRE DIAGRAMS ARE FUN TOO, IT MIGHT TAKE 4 SHOTS, TAKING THEM TO PAINT, CROPPING THEM, SAVE-AS-ING THEM. THEN POSTING THEM IN AN ORDER AS TO (I WOULD HOPE) THE QUESTION ASKER MIGHT SOME HOW PUT THEM TOGETHER, OR HAVE THE ABILITY TO JUMP FROM ONE DIAGRAM TO ANOTHER WITH HIS WIRE TRACING. THEN THERE'S THE FACTOR (WHICH I CANNOT CONTROL) DID ALL OF 'EM POST? ARE THEY AS READABLE ON 2CAR AS IN "MY PICS"

I'D REALLY LOVE TO COPY AND PASTE THE WHOLE NINE YARDS TO YOU! BUT I CAN'T! I ALSO CANNOT MAKE 1000 SCREENSHOTS TO SEND TO YOU!

I DID READ THRU AND LOOK AT MANY OF THE DIAGRAMS, BEFORE I DECIDED TO REPLY TO YOUR QUESTION. AND YES, FROM THE BEGINNING, I UNDERSTOOD THAT "YOU SORTA SAID" SOMEHOW OLE FRITZ GORILLA GLUED/ INDEXED/ NAILED/ ETC THAT PUPPY ON, AND DID NOT USE BOLTS.

I DID TAKE ABOUT 20 MINUTES TO SEND YOU A COUPLE OF SCREEN SHOTS, NOTICE AT THE TOP (CAR AND YEAR) THAT I SUBMITTED, THEN NOTICE THE MASSIVE LIST OF ENGINE NUMBERS (WHICH SEEM TO HAVE DIFFERENT ACCESSORY EQUIPMENT.)

(YOU WON'T FIND ALL OF THAT ON THE 258 CID IN MY 39 YEAR OLD DAILY DRIVER JEEP CJ-5!)

HENCE, THE REQUEST FOR YOUR VIN TO ATTEMPT TO NARROW THE READING DOWN (WHICH MIGHT NOT MAKE A DIFFERENCE EITHER)

PICS CAN STILL BE SUBMITTED (ADD IMAGE) BELOW THE BOX YOU RESPOND IN.

WHATEVER YOU DO, WE HOPE, YOUR EXPERIENCE WAS NOT TAINTED HERE, AND YOU AND YOUR PALS MIGHT VISIT US AGAIN, EVEN IF JUST USING OUR "SEARCH FEATURE" (ON THE BLUE BAR, TOP OF THE PAGE) IT TOO, CAN BE HELPFUL SHOULD YOU LOCATE AN OLD POST IN WHICH THE SAME SORTA PROBLEM OCCURRED

GOOD LUCK
