Last night my Mazada 6 4 Cyl started making a ticking/knocking noise every time I hit the gas. I pulled over and checked the oil and it was bone dry. I am just under 1,000 miles overdue for my next oil change. I put in two quarts of oil and ran the engine for about 15 seconds and checked my dip stick again. I could see the oil I had put in. I drove around the parking lot to see if the noise would stop and it got a lot quieter. I decided to drive home (about 15 miles) and it was sporadically louder and softer as I drove. For a few miles it didn't make any noise at all. I checked on it again this morning and it is still making the ticking noise. I checked the belts and tensioners and they seem to be fine. I cannot move them, there is no rust, and the belts look fine. None of my dash lights are on.

You knowingly drove the car extremely low on oil.

Now it's time to look for a new motor. I hope you take care of this one a little better.
