Six months ago the dash panel lights began to fade and then went black. Now the control panel for the heater/AC etc, is going out. It is not a fuse. Do I need to replace something?

Hi,

I'm not completely sure I understand, so I'm going to go two different directions.

First, when you say it is starting to go out, do you mean the blower motor is only working on some speeds? If that is the case, then my first suspect would be the blower motor resister. This resister is what determines the fan speed. If you look at pic 1, is shows how the switch sends power to the resister at different points.

If the fan works normally on high, but the lower speeds are failing, replace the resister. Here are the directions for doing so:

REMOVAL
1. Lower the glove compartment.

2. Remove the parts in the order indicated in the illustration and table.

INSTALLATION
1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

If that isn't the case, check the ground location for condition in pic 1 (lower left of pic)

If the ground is good and the resister isn't the issue, you will need to check the electronic manual temp control module. See pic 3. For me to be more specific on what exactly needs checked on the module, I need to confirm what exactly is happening.

Let me know if I can help or if you have other questions.

Take care,
Joe
