We have a 2004 Chevy Astro van that keeps blowing a fuse (intermittently) when in reverse. As a result this takes out the blinkers as well. I have changed all bulbs and a local garage changed out the reverse/neutral switch. Still blowing a 20A fuse every day or so. It doesn't happen all the time. If we avoid backing up, we don't blow the fuse. Any ideas?

The only thing it can be is a short. Check the light sockets and wiring in and around the tail lights. If you need a wiring schematic, let me know.

We have also been working around the short idea. I have checked and rechecked the rear light mountings, etc. And cleaned everything up but still blowing bulbs. Any way I can isolate it to a section? The rear lights have a block that can be unplugged and I could try that to see if it is in the rear. The other idea is to run a new wire from the front to the rear and cut the original wire(s) but I have no idea which one to try. What do you think?

Is it blowing bulbs or fuses? Also, if it is a fuse, unplug the rear lights and see if the fuse still blows. If it does, then the problem is before that point. If not, it is between the lights and that plug. NOTE: If it is blowing bulbs (as mentioned), make sure you are only getting 12 volts to the lights. You may have a bad regulator.

Sorry about that, I actually meant "fuses", not bulbs. I'll unplug the block at the back and see if it continues. Thanks so much for your help. I'll keep you posted.
