Is it possible to rebuild motor, could possibly just be lifters what exactly has to be done to remove motor and replace lifters or rebuild motor, or is it better to junk vehicle and start off new and. Can the motor be taken to a shop to rebuild or can it be broken down to the block and re shaved what kind of price range am I looking at for this type of work or can it be done at home at a slow pace and as money is available

The engine can be rebuilt, that is not a problem, but we do need to know exactly what needs to de done before knowing any approx. Prices, if you have the time space and expertise to do this go get a work shop manual and follow this price parts as you go and ask for advice if you get stuck, do not do anything unless you are 100% sure of what you are doing, as a small error may destroy the engine.

Everyone I asked says it needs a new motor but I do most mechanic work on my vehicles and would like to do this but never done this before but where do I get the shop manual. It knocks lightly at idle then when you give it gas it gets louder. Assumed they ran it low on oil so changed oil with 10w -40 but didn't make a difference

You may find it cheaper to just replace your motor with a good used one, rather than trying to rebuild it.
