My cambelt went on my renault scenic megane 1.6. It's going to cost a fortune to fix, over £1000. Someone has suggested getting a reconditioned engine fitted rather than scraping it. This will coat approx £7-800. I'm receiving conflicting advice from everyone on this, some say get the engine others says scrap and buy another car. I'm cautious of messing round with engines especially removing them and refitting. My question is, is it worth getting a recon engine? Are they more hassle then they are worth? And what's the likelihood of the recon breaking or costing hundreds more that originally thought? Thanks Clare :-)

Re built engines come with warranties where used engines are 30 days only with no history. If you are ready to buy another car, then go for it. It is not cheaper to buy another car but it is your call, not ours to tell you what to do.
