My 2003 Pontiac Vibe has a ticking noise coming from the area of the vent immediately left of the glove compartment when the fan is on. If I press the recirculate button the noise stops. If I move the hose behind the vent around the ticking changes frequency and volume. Any idea what is causing it and how to fix it? thanks

You may need to remove the blower motor to see if you have some leaves or paper stuck in there. The fact that changing it to recirculate changes the sound tends to point to that area.

I had this problem on mine. The servo that controls the recirculating director has a stripped gear in it. If you pull out the glove box you'll be able to locate it and takes 5 minutes to replace.
