... Has either fallen off, or never existed. Typical of a poor, broke fool, I pulled off the old one thinking "surely theres a routing diagram under the hood". Now, I'm scratching my head. Because either the belt's 2 inches too short, or the routing's wrong. If we can rule out the IDIOT part of this equation and belt size is wrong, I'll go from there.

Below, I've drawn a crude diagram to illustrate what I think is the correct routing for the belt.

If this is correct, then 960K6 doesn't cut it.
IF NOT THIS, THEN WHAT? HELP!!!!!

Hello, im having similar ttrouble with my 2001 windstar. Is the routing the same for the 2001? And if so, what is the proper installation? Im having trouble getting the belt on. Also, yes, my abs light and brake light come on while driving. What can I do? I also have a PO156 code (bank 2 sensor 2 fault) ive tried getting the drivers side O2 sensor (the one on the catalytic converter) off with no luck.

HELP, please

The diagram is usually shown on a sticker on a side engine cover where you wouldn't think to look. Here's the diagram too in case your sticker is missing. Check out the diagrams (Below). Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.

I have a 1998 Ford Windstar. Yesterday when I was driving in the morning everything was fine. When I turned the car on at night I noticed the battery light came on, but the car still turned on. So when I started to drive I noticed the wheel got real hard when I was turning. I parked the car and opened the hood. There is a belt that is broken right next to the anitfreeze fluid. Is that the Power Steering Belt? And is that the cause of the wheel getting so hard when I turn?

Ford Windstars have only one serpentine belt driving the accessories (eg pwr steering, alternator, A/C, etc.) Absence of the belt causes no power-assist for steering, resulting in a hard-to-steer vehicle, and the battery light you mentioned.
Purchase another belt, ensure all pulleys are in good condition and especially: Make sure the belt tensioner is still "in-plane" with the other pulleys. When tensioners wear out at their pivot point, the serpentine belt tends to ride on the outer edge of the pulley, eventually tearing the bands one by one. You'll be left stranded again.
Have your mechanic determine any side-to-side play on the tensioner, as well as determine if the other pulleys are in good shape and replace as necessary. Worn components will only tear the replacement new belt to shreds if left unchecked.

How do you replace a serpentine belt in a 1997 Ford Windstar. I would appreciate a picture of the routing diagram as well as the proper belt length because I believe the last belt was improperly installed and was the wrong length. (The book calls for 103.25 inches and the belt that was already broken when I got the vehicle is 94.25 inches. I also need to know the proper way to install the new belt using the tension pulley. Thank you for your time.

The tensioner is automatic you will need I believe a 15mm wrench or check with your local rental store and see if they have a belt tensioner tool.

Anyway you will put the wrench on the bolt in center of tenstioner pulley. Tensioner will move away from the belt. You will need to hold it since it is automatic and it will spring back.

Was making squealing noise. Now transitioned to a rattling noise. At first I suspected alternator but after seeing belt I think it may be tensioner & pully and/or fixed idler pulley located between alt and ps pump. Smooth side of belt is shiny on 1/2 of belt only.

Suggestions?

Ok what I would do is first look closely at belt routing and see if anything looks out line check first. Next remove belt and physically spin each pulley and feel for roughness, there should be absolutely no rough spinning pulleys, also check ac compressor pulley to make sure the bearings are not bad. Hope this helps

Ford Windstar 2001 at 102000 miles wont start my battery light came on the other day. I took th battery and alternator off and got them both checked. The battery was bad. I bought a new battery, put it on and put the alternator back on, but the belt going across the alternator wont go on. I tried a tenture pully and it still won't go on. Howw do I get the belt back on my van and is there something else wrong with it besides the battery
