Hello,

An engine can go to reduce power mode or limp mode due to a malfunction in the engine operation system. It can be due to a faulty sensor or a damaged part. The reason it goes to limp mode is to protect the engine from any further damages.
The most common cause of the low power mode is a faulty throttle actuator. The throttle actuator can send incorrect signal to the ECM and in return the ECM will reduce power to protect the engine.

If the components in the throttle body is dirty it will be unable to monitor the air flow correctly and will create issue. Many times cleaning out the throttle body can fix this issue.

I attached diagrams for your reference.

Please let me know of any questions.
Thank you.
