Car battery not holding charge.

I have a custom car that i like to leave in the garage through the winter. But when i go start it in the spring the battery is dead
Why is my battery not holding its charge?

There are a couple reasons. Mainly because batteries aren't designed to hold a charge that long and when they are hooked up, most vehicles have a normal parasitic draw that accelerates the discharge. You need to recharge the battery at regular intervals. Disconnecting it would make it last longer but will still eventually discharge. This habit will likely permanently damage the battery also.
