2002 Mazda Protege starts but dies

car hard to start once running idles rough mostly but computer picks up maybe 5 seconds then will just die- if you try to give it gas it dies. neew fuelpump fire is ok and trouble codes say MAF sensor high input,and that all, cant just takeoff wasting money can you help?

Will it run if you disconnect the MAF?

The MAF is a Mass Air Flow sensor. It identifies the amount of air that is entering the engine and meters it that way. It doesn't control the gas pedal.
