HILUX Dual Cab.
A) Engine light stays on
B) Runs very very sluggish, no power at all. It feels like it has all of a sudden been 'governed'.
C) Have changed the oil and filter, added injector cleaner, tomorrow I will replace the fuel filter.
D) The computer connector (pictured) is under the hood.
E} Can you buy code readers that will connect to this multi pin port?

That is a Toyota No.18 connector. Unfortunately it does not have the other two pins needed to flash the codes without a scan tool. As such you will probably need a dealer machine to read anything. There are adapters that convert it so an OBD2 scan tool can work but it is hit or miss if they work with a code reader.
Which country was this truck built for? Supposedly Toyota stopped using that as the primary connector in 2000 and had the 16 pin OBD II port under the dash.

Hi Steve, thanks for your reply. The Hilux is in Australia. I can purchase OBDII scanners at pretty reasonable prices from Auto shops. A friend also has an OBD1 scanner/reader that he built himself for a 1996 Ford Falcon I think it was (locally built sedan here in Australia).

Do you think that an OBDII scanner/reader, with a suitable pin adapter so it can connect to the Toyota #18 would give me the relevant codes?

Thanks again.

John

It all depends on the scan tool. I would think it should work. You might also look to see if it has the round DLC connector as well. I have seen Toyota's with all three connectors on them before.
