I put the car in drive and it longes forward and then shut down and cuts off

IT sounds like a bad torque converter clutch. Solenoid or the clutch iteself. This part locks the converter at highway speeds to improve fuel mileage. If it is locked when stopped, the engine will die when shifted. It would be like popping the clutch on a manual transmission. It will lunge forward and then kill the engine.

If the check engine light is on or the OD light is on or flashing, have the computer scanned for trouble codes.
