Hello, I am trying to diagnose the problem on my 2002 Explorer. Whenever I go to start, it takes about 2-3 tries before it starts. I have checked the starter, plugs, and maf. All of which are good. It seems to start on the first try in the cold but when its warm outside it takes about 2-3 tries.

It sounds like the throttle body and IAC valve need to be serviced, here are the guides to help you fix it, this guide is for hard starting in general which will help you under strand what's going on.

I would also, replace the fuel filter which I have included instructions for and the location as well.

This guide will walk you through the throttle body service.

Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.
