What could cause engine light to come on?

There are hundreds of reasons a check engine light would come on. You want to go to a qualified mechanic, and have them pull the code. The check engine light code will then tell you what error the computer saw, and a direction to go in order to repair it. Could be as simple as a faulty gas cap, or could be an engine misfire, a faulty sensor.
