2001 1.8L turbo beetle. No real power. Runs kinda sluggish and sometimes stalls and dies when you step on the gas. Was told that the catalytic converter was burned out. Could that cause the issues? Just spent $1000 on a new air breather system at the dealer, did not fix the issues.

Unless a catalytic converter is fully plugged up, it won't cause a vehicle to stall. It can cause a lack of power though.

I'd be curious to see if there were any more faults stored besides the catalytic efficiency fault. I'd get it scanned again and post up the faults.
