About a month ago I purchased 206 GTI alloys for my 1.4 lx which at the time ran on 14" standards. After putting the new wheels on, I heard knocks coming from the back then stupidly decided to ignore it. Now, each wheel seems to knock and bang over bumps and there is an awful really loud almost high pitched rattle coming from the rear (not the spare wheel but certainly sounds like something in very loose). I lately changed the rear back box however It is securely on so unsure if that's the cause of the rattle. A few days ago I decided to replace the alloys with the standard wheels hoping that this would stop the noises but sadly not. Any idea how I'd fix this:(

Are all the wheels making this noise? Have you checked to see if they were hitting anything?

That's odd. Have you checked things like strut bushings, brakes to make sure the inner part of the wheel wasn't touching the caliper?

Safely lift one tire from the ground at a time and see if there is play up and down or side to side. Let me know what you find. Also, take a look under the vehicle to make sure something isn't hanging down such as an exhaust component or anything else.

On the rear too? I notice the other day when I jacked up the car that the rear wheels can bounce up and down a lot

Yes, the rear too. However, it is odd that they bounce up and down a lot. Make sure the struts are properly mounted and not blown. Just for curiosity, with the vehicle on the ground, if you bounce it hard, does it continue bouncing or does it stop after about 3 bounces?
