On my 2001 Diamante, when I start it, I have to push the gas peddle to the floor and hold it there b4 the car will start. Could this be a gas filter or vacuum leak? Problem getting persistently worst. Have had battery & electrical system checked and told both or OK. If you don't keep gas peddle down to the floor, car will not start.

Check for vacuum leaks and check for problems with the idle air control valve. If black smoke is coming from the exhaust, check fuel pump pressure and regulator. Black smoke indicates too much fuel.
