camshaft position sensor

what size engine is it? a 2.4 or 2.5? one of these will be ground which all you need to do is turn the key on with a test light or vom and test one black wire, if it gets a 5 volt reference signal then one will go there, the other to ground. the one i'm sending is for a 2.4L engine(pic) i imagine it is two black wires on bottom of connector and pink on top. i would think that if you see the way it's wired in the diagram then that may be the way it is. also you might be able to hook up a test light and touch the pin of the sensor on the one and turn the engine over. if it lights up then that might be ground. but you would need to put your tester on positive of battery or low voltage so you wouldn't mess it up.

First, I do have a 2.4 (4 cylinder). Second, there are 3 leads, 2 black and one orange. However, let me get clarification.
If I am looking at the connector (where the camshaft position sensor plug into), from left to right e.g. 1>2>3> I know the orange and orange go together. Is that correct? Does it matter which black wire go to each other? If it does, do I just place my DVM positive on the wire I will cut and the other to a metal surface (or the negative battery terminal)? Should 1 get 5 volts? When the car is being cranked?

one of the black wires will have voltage the other won't. Touch the one black wire or lead and if the test light lights, that is ground I have found the full wiring diagram so you can get the problem fixed.

Okay, I hope I am not overlooking your instructions or just confused. When I idenify the ground, should I connect it to the pigtail and check to see which area inside the connector is ground? I am trying to figure out looking for left to right where should ground be. Of course I think it is fair to assume we know where the orange wire go.

check the wire that is already on the car for which may be ground. even if it's damaged. if you find that one then you only have one wire left and you shold know where that one goes.

I think I got you. I assume I test the leads inside the connector to determine ground, for example the last terminal on the from left to right is ground. After that, I cut all the wires. Then I connect one black lead to the pig tail and then test inside of the same connector. I switch the black wire until I get the same ground. Then I know where the remaining black wire belongs. Is that right? Of course the orange stays with orange.

sounds like you do, just make sure to use solder and shrink tube to do the fix and not just crimp type connectors.

Hi,

The Pink wire is battery voltage from the EGR fuse. It is terminal # 3.

Terminal # 1 is Black wire to ground, joined with other sensors.

Terminal #2 is Black and white wire from PCM terminal # 16 (cam position sensor).

The wires conecter broke for the wiring now my car runs for a couple of seconds then stops what is the best place to get a new plug with out spending a lot of money

Auto parts stores have entire books listing all kinds of replacement connectors. You can also visit a salvage yard and snip one off a car there.

Be absolutely certain to splice and solder the joints and seal them with water-proof heat-shrink tubing. Do not use electrical tape, and never, never, ever use butt connectors. Butt connectors and Scotch-Lok connectors don't seal out moisture. Those will cause all kinds of intermittent problems in the future. Electrical tape will unravel into a gooey mess on a hot day.
