I have a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. It is an automatic with a 4.0 6 cyl. I was told that I should not drive over 50 mph while in 4x4 high mode. Is this true, or can I drive over 50 mph without damaging the transfer case?

Hello,

Well, I am not sure how true it is for the newer vehicles. I know that older model vehicle it wasn't recommended to drive over 45mph in 4 wheel drive. But, trying to drive on the road in 4 wheel drive was nearly impossible because it would kick and buck like crazy because of the hard surface.

Now they make vehicles with All Wheel Drive that are also 4 wheel drive and can be driven at normal hwy speeds.

My suggestion is that if you don't need to drive in 4 wheel drive on the hwy's don't and if you do because of snow and ice you don't need to be driving that fast to begin with.
