2001 Ford Escort ZX2

Service engine soon light came on, ran and drove fine. Parked it, next day went to drive it and the gear shift will not move out of park. Any suggestions?

You may have two seperate problems here. Have the engine scanned and see what the code is, then yourbrake/trans lock is stuck or not working you'll need to check that out, if you have a floor shift it will be in the console, there may be a button you can release to get it out of park. Of course it will be under the console.
