What makes water come into the engine and how much does it cost to fix this problem?

Head gasket is busted. And it cost a fortune if you have someone else do it. The gasket is a little pricey but if you have the know-how, it is worth the time and money to do it yourself.

Short trips and condenstation can cause a little water vapor in the engine, collecting on the oil cap and such. Water in the engine and a corresponding coolant loss can indicate an internal leak. Possibly a head gasket, or crack in block/head. You can look at a minimum of 2000-3000 dollars to replace the head gaskets, and it can change from there depending on what additionally is needed.
