Hi Guys,

My 2000 Jetta 4 2.0 liter engine has 350000 km on it now. It still goes well, just starting to use a bit of oil. I was wondering if I could replace the 2.0 liter engine with a VR6? Would it fit, would the 2.0 engines gearbox fit the VR6, is it a good idea?

Thanks
Dave

Hello,

It is possible to do that swap. However, you will need to have every drivetrain component as well as all the modules and computers switched over.
Also, it will need customer motor mounts as well as other modifications to make the VR6 fit.
Keep in mind that all the engine harness needs to be changed as well.

If there was a donor car, it might be an option.
That way you can basically take every component out of the donor can and install on yours.
The computers might need to be flashed as well.

So yes, it is possible but might not be ideal to do that swap.

Best option might be to diagnose the current engine and see why it is using oil. Is it leaky piston rings or a leak, then get it addressed.

Does the car emit any smoke out of the tailpipe?
Typically, when an engine burns oil it will produce blue smoke.

Here is a helpful article:

I have attached the engine replacement instructions for the 2.0L engine.

Please let me know of any questions.
Thank you.
