When I turn on the ignition, there is like a roaring noise that lasts about 2 seconds then stops, the car is smooth to drive but the initial noise is very loud and I don't know what's wrong with it.

Please can you help?

Thanks

COULD THIS BE THE FUEL PUMP INITIALLY PRIMING AS WITH ALL OTHER CARS WITH AN ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP

THIS MIGHT ALSO BE A SIGN THAT IT HAS A PROBLEM

HAS IT BEEN DOING THIS FOREVER. OR DID IT JUST START?

I've only just got the car but my friend says (and I've noticed) sometimes it will do it and sometimes it's fine.

So does the noise come from the back seat area when the key is turned ON or does the noise come from the engine bay (like in the video link I supplied) when the key is turned to CRANK?

The fuel pump is located under the rear bench seat and can be quickly checked with a multimeter:

If the car is a TDi, then there will not be a fuel pump there.

Fuel pump priming is not always audible.

Try to record the sound and upload it to youtube (free) and then post the link here.
