2000 Pontiac - steering column - What kind of noise does the car make when this pump is going out? Upon moving the steering wheel, I hear a noise as if it's metal. Placing steering column fluid, the noise is almost gone? Replace pump or was it insufficient liquid?

If the fluid was low and topping it up made the noise go away you may have a leak somewhere. I would get it checked out, before the pump gets low again and fails.

The common leak is the cooler lines or the lines from the pump to the rack. Keep it topped up until you can get it checked out!
