I have a mercury villager 2000 and I am trying to program a new keyless remote. It say to take key in and out of the ignition atleast 6 times and he lights will flash. I cant get past this step.

If the lights flash. Put the key in and turn it on without starting the engine. Press any button on the remote once more than once and it will fail . Turn the key off and remove it. Done
