The Rodeo has been "slipping" into neutral whilst driving (the car is an automatic). This has only happened a few times over the last week, and only for a second or so at a time (before popping back into drive).

The mechanic we took it to could not see what was wrong with it exactly, and suggested that we flush the transmission, drop the pan, replace the filters. He said that it was 50/50 crapshoot: the fluid change may fix the problem, but the transmission may simply need to be rebuilt.

He quoted us at 700 odd dollars for the fluid flush and change etc. This seems very steep, but I'm unfortunately not savvy enough to know if this will involve more than your average fluid change etc.

Do you have any suggestions or advice on what we should do? We've called a few other mechanics for a quote and they've either told us they would need to diagnose themselves or that it would certainly need to be rebuilt.

have a trans guy look at this it may be an internal problem. $700 for a flush is way overpriced, should be in $100-200 range.
