Hello- I recently had my muffler changed and the pipe connecting to the catalytic converter replaced. The service engine soon light was on and the car was idling high so the mechanic reset it. It came right back on and he found code 505 on it after he put it on the machine.

The next day the car would not stay on unless I hit the break first. Today the car would big stay on unless input it in neutral, pressed the break and the gas - then put it in drive. I was able to get home but had to drive with both feet. (Car is an automatic). Once home my father turned down my idle And the car turns on and runs ok. What on earth could be the problem? Please advise!

A PO505 trouble code indicates a problem with the idle air control valve (IAC). The IAC is responsible for maintaining the engine idle speed and is really not adjustable, so I'm not sure what your father did to slow it down. Also, the exhaust and IAC are really not related.

Has the light stayed on or come back on since your father did his adjustment?

Thanks for your response! The check/service engine light is still on. Yet the car is starting with no problem and idling fine. My father said he adjusted the throttle. Idk. Also the code 505 was found at a regular mechanic not a Infiniti mechanic- the Infiniti dealer said that code number may not be correct because they have different diagnostic machines. Again IDK.

Honestly, I don't see how the code would be wrong. All scanners are designed to do the same thing. They wouldn't just provide a different code that would be wrong. See if you can get the computer reset and then see if the light comes back on with the same code.

Most parts stores will do this for free.
