My air conditioner was working fine until one day it wasn't blowing cold air out when the AC was on and the outside temperature ranged from 90-105. It turned out that AC refrigerant levels were low; therefore a recharge was necessary. I had a family member do the recharge and they an entire cannister of refrigerant. The AC began hissing whenever I turned it on and I ignored it for a few weeks. After a few weeks, the AC compressor kept cycling on and off multiple times. It would try to cycle, but could not. I took it to an air conditioning shop and they evacuated and recharged the refrigerant for me. The AC compressor was able to cycle, but now whenever I exceed 2000 rpm, the compressor shuts off. When I am at a red light, the compressor successfully cycles on. Prior to this, I had no problem with the compressor whenever the AC was on, but I think that prolonged damage might have happened when there was too much refrigerant and I am just wondering what I should do now to fix the issue of the car not being able to cycle normally like it did a few years ago. The AC compressor stayed on even when my RPMs reached 4000 or 5000 rpm.

Thank you!

Look at it and fix the leak it has as it's low again and probably need evacuation and recharge

You are correct, the AC compressor sounds like it has gone bad due to the overcharging, here is a generic guide to help you step by step with instructions in the diagrams below to show you how on your car.
