I recently had $8000 work on my motor. I took it in because of a tapping noise. The nosie is still there. The shop said they have a cleaner in the with the new oil to clean oil flow channels and the noise will go away after 1000 miles and another oil flush. They replaced the valves, timing chain, seals and said they can restore oil flow to one cylinder. I am frustrated with this place. I think a new motor would have cost less. What should I be checking to get rid of this tapping noise? I am sorry I am out of money now for a donation :(

For 8K dollars, they should have given you a new truck. You can get a reman engine for around 3K. As far as the noise, if it is a ticking from the top of the engine, it sounds like a lifter or rocker arm. The only way to check is to remove the valve cover and check. As far as the shop, give them the benefit of the doubt and see if what they said happens. If it doesn't, then I would recommend demanding they fix the problem.
