I braked too hard, when I tried to put the car in reverse it would not move. I then tried to put it in park and it made a loud noise, like metal against metal. It only makes a noise in park, if it is in drive or neutral it just won't move.

Braking too hard won't hurt the trans. Tell me, when it's in drive, is there a load on the engine like it's trying to move but can't?

When the car is in Drive it acts as if it were Neutral, same goes for R, 1 and 2. If the 4WD is activated the car will move normally, but can I drive around with that on?

Okay, if you can drive it in 4wd only, something happened either to the rear axle, rear drive shaft, or the differential. That isn't a good thing. First, check to make sure the drive shaft is secure and not hanging down. Next, place the vehicle in 2wd and place it in gear and have a helper watch the rear drive shaft to see if it is turning (even if the car isn't).

Let me know what you find.
