I have a 2000 cavalier. I recently charged the system, manually myself, and had success the first day. The next day, however, it started blowing hotter. I rechecked the level and it was ok, but now it still will not blow cold and the compressor clutch is rattling very badly. Could it be possible where the system hasn't been charged for many years, when the clutch or compressor did kick on it destroyed the clutch, or do you think that I could oil it manually? If nothing else could I unplug it and stop the noise?

the compressor is probably shot due to not being charged correctly and moisture not being removed. just unplug it you won't have air but it will stop rattling if it rattles while not on then it's a clutch problem
