My daughter bought a used car 1999 Mercury Cougar had it 3 weeks had checked by my local mechanic seemed in good shape prior to buy. Battery light acting up took to autozone wrong size battery, possibly motorcycle battery so had them replace with new battery the correct size. Gauges are acting up and the battery light keeps flashing been 3 days now.

Have them check the alternator. Also, make sure the ground to the engine block is tight and clean. Finally, if the battery isn't recharging properly, have them check the fuseable link between the alt and the battery as well as all electrical connections on the rear of the alt. NOTE: When the alt is checked (most part stores do it for free) make sure they also check the voltage regulator.
