I don't know what's wrong with my truck, it won't turn over, it doesn't even ding when I put my key in. The light under the hood works so I know it's not the battery. No crank no spark, checked the fuses, and just replaced the brakes.

Hello HARMONY817,

The light under the hood doesn't use a lot of current but the starter and the modules throughout the vehicle do. So, the bulb would light up, but the vehicle won't have enough power to turn everything else on. I would take the battery to be load tested at AutoZone or somewhere similar just to be sure.

You can also check it using a multimeter. If you don't have one you can grab one at an auto parts store or Home Depot has a nice one from a company called Klien. I will add an image for you.

This article will show you how to use one in case you never have:

You want to use the DC voltage setting. Should show a line with a dashed line underneath. Connect the red to the positive and black to the negative on the battery. You should have 12 volts.

What did you get for a reading?

How often do you drive the vehicle? Is it a daily driver or does it sit a lot?

Do any other lights or anything else work at all?

How old is the battery?

How are the battery connections? Are they nice and clean? They need to be clean and tight.

Check out this article, I think it will help:

If it is the battery and we don't test it, we will be chasing our tails trying to find the issue. So, testing the battery either with a multimeter or taking it to AutoZone to have it tested is the best place to start. The last thing we want to do is overlook something obvious.

If the battery is more than 5 years old, it is a good possibility it's faulty and needs to be replaced.

Let me know what you come up with and we will go from there.

Thank you,
Brendon
