I was given a code P1811 from the mechanic ?

I have a 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue GLS with 167,000 miles. My check engine light came on a few weeks ago, so I took it to a repair shop to do a diagnostic test. I was given a code P1811 from the mechanic and was told that I needed to take it to a transmission shop for further testing.I went to a few transmission shops and was told by both mechanics that the transmission was going bad and that it needed rebuilt and that it is going to cost me $1300 for the repairs to complete this.

This car is in good shape other than this issue, just wanted to know if I should have this repaired or just get rid of it?

Hello,

The code P1811 typically gets triggered when there is a shifting issue. Typically delay in shifting.
Depending on what is causing this issue, it could be any number of components or sensors.
It could be due to not having sufficient fluid pressure within the transmission, or faulty valve body or shift solenoid.
The best course of action would be to take a deeper dive in diagnosing the issue. That can determine if a transmission overhaul or replacement is necessary.

As for if it will be worth repairing, it is really a subjective question and depends completely on you.
