My 1998 Chevy Malibu lost battery power and I put new leads on it, due to corosion of the old ones, to ensure a clean connection. Now the car will not start due to a "theft system" light on the dash panel that I have never seen before. How do I start my car? The battery is good, everything works, but when I turn the the ignition key to start, I get nothing.

Try this:

PROGRAMMING
AUTO LEARN
NOTE:This procedure must be performed after ignition switch replacement.

Clear all DTCs. Follow scan tool manufacturer's instructions. With transmission in Park (A/T) or Neutral (M/T), turn ignition switch to START position. Vehicle should start and then stall. Leave ignition in RUN position (engine off) until THEFT SYSTEM indicator turns off (about 10 minutes). Turn ignition off for 10 seconds. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. On next start attempt, Body Function Controller (BFC) will learn new data. Reprogram PCM. See TESTS W/CODES article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE section.
