My jeep I bought few months ago needs the wiring harness for the pcm replaced for an issue with it stalling and backfiring while driving. It completely stops getting fuel and sputters and jerks until it stalls. At fjrst it qoild strt backup and be ok for a few miles. Then it statrted turning over but not strarting, and the intervals got longer and longer. Now it's sitting dead in my driveway and I'm bumming rides to work while I try to figure this out There is a lot of information and what to do to fix the issue but I cannot find the part to replace it with. We've tried soldering and removing and trying to secure the pin but it comes loose. This is my only mode of transportion and I cannot afford to buy a new vehicle with it not running. I've found a 98 wiring harness Wich could be spliced but I do not have the diagram to show where the pins go.

I'LL ATTEMPT TO HELP

YOUR VEHICLE INFO AT THE TOP IS WRONG!

IS THIS A 4.O LITER 6 CYLINDER, GAS, NOT A 4 CYL DIESEL?

GIMME EVERY NUMBER/ LETTER WRITTEN ON YOUR RIG THAT IDENTIFIES IT. EVEN THE VIN NUMBER MIGHT HELP

ANY OTHER INFO OR HISTORY ON THE PROBLEM COULD HELP TOO

Goodness I apologize. I was so happy to find this website that I answered while we were on the way to town. We've been working on this for months now and we're about as frustrated as we can be.

It is a 4 l 6 cyl gas

I was not aware of this issue before purchase or that they had tried to reset the pins with windshield glue and some were broken and laying on on top of each other. We've isolated the staling to a specific wire in the pcm. We have only been able to find a 1998 wire harness or gang connector, but we dwere too frustrated and didn't have the foresight to mark where the pins were set. The 98 also has more wires than we need, making it even ore difficult. The previous harness had been spliced 4 times for some reason.

There was no indication of a problem when I first test drove and purchased the jeep. No check engine lite or sign of obvious issue. The engine is pretty clean, it ran great. A month later the check engine light came on so I took it to have it checked. Mass 02 sensor. So we cleaned and then replaced that. Light went off for a couple days then back on. Said it was another sensor. Checked that. Lights off again for a Couple days. Then all of a sudden it gradually started to sputter like it wasn't getting fuel. We've checked pumps filters etc. The problemons gradually got worse. It would crank but not start. It would backfire and sputter and loose rpm. The gas pedal did nothing. The. It would do a that and stall even if I was in the highway at 70 mph. I'd have to coast to a stop or put it in nuetrlbut it would restart. Gradually it needed to sit before it would restart. The time getting longer and longer. By this time we had heard of the pcm issue and isolated it to this wire by wiggling it. If you wiggled it a certain way the engine cut right out. It would sputter but if you moved the wire in the opposite direction it would recover. Eventually the pin came loose and fell completely out. So id have to push it back in and wiggle it until it was in the right position to start. Otherwise it would just turn over until the battery started dying. Then I'd go to strt it and it wouldn't start at all.

We tried to clean the pin. Resolder the wire . But the entire plug is a mess inside. Broke pins etc. I don't believe I need the to replace the pcm. And I can't afford to spend alot of money on parts I don't need. But I will if I have to because I need my car to get the kids to school and myself to work.

Thano ypu for a very prompt response. I apologize for the incorrect beginning.
