I have a 97 honda civic ex the heater won't blow hot air just barely blows a little warm I've checked the flap and it works fine and the heater core is getting hot is there something else I should check? Also it won't switch to defrost or any other control it only blows out of the front dash vents I put a new climate control in and that did not help is there a relay or something I should check?

If the heater core is getting hot (both hoses going to it are hot) then the only other thing can be the blend air door isn't opening. Since you have issues with the air flow direction, something tells me there is a vacuum problem. If I recall, in 97 the system was actuated using engine vacuum. Check for issues with vacuum first. You may just have a broken hose or one that is disconnected.

Let me know what you find.
