Check Engine Light

My 1997 GMC Suburban had a cracked head gasket..lots of $$$ to repair...since that repair the "check enging light" won't go off. Now the mechanice checks the 02 sensor, replaces this, at no cost to me. I have been using this mechanic for 12 years and have always trusted him...until now. "The check engine light is on because?????????

Have a scan performed to get the trouble code and post it here. Most parts outlets provides free scanning services.
