First start of the day cranks well but takes a long time to start then runs rough for aprox. Ten minutes. After this it starts immediatly unless it sits for about four hours.

Sounds like fuel pressure is bleeding down when it sits. Causes are a leaking injector, leaking pressure regulator, or check valve in the fuel pump. To prove this, cycle the ignition switch to "run" without cranking the engine, then turn it off. Wait a few seconds then do that again. After the third time start the engine. If it starts right away, it's a fuel pressure problem. Each time you turn on the ignition switch the fuel pump will run for one second. It can take two or three seconds to build enough pressure for starting. It takes a lot longer during cranking because battery voltage is drawn down by the starter so the pump runs slower.
