I have a 1997 buick park ave that is not running. I was told by the mechanic at a car dealership when I wanted to trade it in that it has a bad pump that is located inside the gas tank that would be a 8 to 10 hour fix if a new pump could even be located. He said that the part is no longer manufactured. He then offered me $100 to buy the car. Is his information correct? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

His info could be correct as far as the pump being bad, but you can get one for about 150 dollars at any parts store. As far as labor, if it takes him 8 to 10 hours to replace it, he's not a good mechanic. The book calls for 1.8 hours. It should cost you around 350 to fix it.
