Will a 96 marquis ecm/computer work in a 99 marquis?

i have a 99 grand marquis motor in my expedition(i did a 5.4 to 4.6 swap) and i was told too change the ecm cause its smoking real bad and the car was crushed and i was wondering would a 96 marquis ecm work?

it might but your wiring probably changed as well a what hooks up to what. i wouldn't suggest it besides it needs to be the same engine/trans. etc. i may damage other components
