I need to replace the power seat motor on my 96 XJS. There are four bolts that must be removed. However, since the seats cannot move, due to the bad motor, I cann move the seat to get to the two rear bolts.

Is there any way to move a power seat when there is no power?

If you can get lucky and remove the motor or maybe disconnect the cable if it has one for forward back motor. You may be able to move it enough otheriwes yo'll have to try to reach the bolts from the front after removing the front bolts an dlifitng up to giv eyou some clearance.

I guess I am not too lucky. I am able to get the front two bolts out. I was able to pry the seat front up a few inches but no way can get enough clearance to get the motor out. The back two bolts are dead center under the back of the seat track.

I cannot even get anything in there to cut them off. I know jaguar has always had rather interesting issues but I keep asking myself how would the dealer fix this situation if it happened under warranty. There must be some way.

Unless this is a torx bit bolt which I kinda doubt you could always try a racheting box end wrench to get to the bolt. We have no pics ofthis but those can get into some tight spots. Being a mechanic isn't the easiest job in the world. You might try from the back as well. Good luck on this. If we had a pic we may be able to help some but not having that we are just doing guesstomation.
