Drove my car 60 miles one way today to visit family-ran fine. On theway home ran fine until last 15 miles.
Then it started skipping when you slowed down and went to accerlarate it dragged for a few minutes before it caught up and it gave this awful smell, bout like burnt gas I do know i've been having probelms with the coolant temp sensor and need it replaced I do not know if this is tied in with that or something else it has never acte like that while accelarating or given off that smell. What could it be? I am currently out of work on medical leave and can't afford costly repairs. Thank you for any help

Hi presnell,

Thank you for the donation.

If the Check Engine Light is indicating, get a scaqn done and let me know the exact trouble codes.

Symptoms indicates a likely misfiring condition and when that occurs, excessive fuel would be discharged to the catalytic converter which would be glowing red hot after prolonged travelling. That can result in the smell indicated.

It could be the faulty ECT as it can result in the engine control running rich.

Other possible causes would be bad spark plugs or related parts and the injectors.

Get the spark plugs checked and note if there are any oil in the plug tubes.

Many things can cause it, bad plugs, wires, coil, fuel pressure. When was the engine last tuned up?

Engine has a misfire even after a major t-up new injectors and fuel filter. Also it will not rev past 3500rpms, the rev limitor kicks in. Check engine light is on however I cant communicate with the car computer. My snap on scanner cant retrieve the codes. I think it might be a computer problem or a distributer.

Car began to misfire under load once warm, replaced plugs and wires which wires were bad. Dist replaced appx. 1 year ago. Did not fix problem. I unhooked battery and let sit awhile then rehooked and ran perfect for about a month (I drive 100miles daily). Now it has began ti start again it begins near the end of my 50 mile drive and becomes sooner as time progresses. Now about 10 miles in it starts and is alot worse. I unhooked negitive and that didnt fix it this time. Pulled plugs and the have black on them. Injecters are ticking and sound normal. I haven't located any vacume leaks. My guess is a senser or computer but don't know where to start and don't want to put alot of money into a $900 car. Please help. Thanks

I would ask if you changed the cap and rotor?

Have the injectors serviced. Not an additive but a real service.

Start there. Removing the cable does nothing for your issue

Last time I unhooked battery it ran perfect for about a month before issue returned so made me think it reset something. I just checked dist. Cap and it has a white build up in it. I will clean that real well with a brush and see if that fixes the issue. Dist cap seems to be newer looking asumming new a year ago. Would there be an issue causing this to happen?
Thanks

It could but cleaning does not fix carbon tracks. Look very closely.

Four years ago my 92 Accord needed a distributor. Recently I have been experiencing a miss in the engine. The miss is errant and without a pattern. However when driving it is bad enough to jerk the car and if idling you can easily feel the car shake when it happens. Only happens for a split second but it is happening more often. I was advised to replace the distributor again which I did with no change in the problem. Any ideas on what the problem could be. Thank you.

F4i_guy, Cap and Rotor are in good condition as are the wires. All replaced 6-7 months ago. Plugs are brand new. I read somewhere that the main relay under the dash could cause the problem as sometimes the car will not start and a few minutes later it will. Any thoughts on that? Thank you.
