Slide the return hose off the fluid reservoir and run it into a container to catch the fluid. Run the engine for a few seconds and turn the steering wheel a little. Try to not let the pump run dry. The fluid is needed to prevent it from quickly overheating. This is not a fluid that is replaced as any part of normal maintenance. The only time I've purposely drained power steering fluid was to install special "cold weather" Chrysler fluid on diesel pickup trucks. That fluid will cure an intermittent whine in extremely cold weather.
