The key is not turning in the ignition. The steering is locked so that the steering wheel can't be jiggled to help turn the key. Maybe the tumbler and/or key are worn but I dont think its been an issue before. I tried getting the front of the car jacked up and moving the wheels side to side and then trying the ignition again, but no luck. I feel like if I can disengage the steering lock the key will turn but I dont know how to go about this. Many thanks for any ideas and information you can share.
if the key won't turn any more, how do I extract the tumbler and replace it?

The steering should move a slight bit to help with the key issue. If that isn't helping, try a different key. The one you are using may be worn. If that doesn't help, get some lube from the local parts store for key tumblers to see if that helps. If it doesn't, you will most likely need to have the tumbler replaced.
